Oh mate, oh mate, oh mate

Kiko Casilla has taken an absolute hammering on social media after a goalkeeping howler gifted Derby County an equaliser in the second leg of the play-off semi-final between the two sided.

Leeds went into the game with a one goal advantage after Kemar Roofe scored a crucial goal in the first leg at Pride Park and doubled their advantage early on through Stuart Dallas.

But in true Leeds fashion, Marcelo Bielsa’s side squandered their lead on Wednesday evening, as Derby drew level through Jack Marriott and Chelsea loanee Mason Mount, before Harry Wilson converted a penalty to put the Rams in front on aggregate.

Dallas then scored his second of the game to draw level on aggregate but first, let’s take a look at that goalkeeping howler.

The first goal, which levelled the scoring on the night, was the result of a horrendous mix-up between Casilla and his defenders. As the former Real Madrid goalkeeper rushed off his line to clear a ball over the top of the Leeds defence, the Spaniard fluffed his clearance, gifting Marriott a golden opportunity to score and he made no mistake.

Neither fans nor neutrals were very forgiving in their analysis of Casilla’s goalkeeping.

In the modern game, goalkeepers have to be able to come off their line to mop up danger, especially in a system as proactive and intense as Bielsa’s, but it seems Casilla has taken that instruction far too literally and can’t resist doing it at every available opportunity.
