Leeds United release new kit that actually looks like a proper Leeds shirt

Kyle Picknell

Leeds United are harking back to the glory days

It’s been a long time coming but Leeds United, one of the biggest clubs in England whether you like to admit it or not, having something of a swagger about them again under the iconoclastic Marcelo Bielsa.

They are currently sitting top of the Championship on goal difference and the Argentine has thrilled the Elland Road faithful so far with his unique blend of back-to-front attacking football and humble personality.

It’s only fitting then that the club’s third kit, released on Wednesday, will pay homage to one of the best sides in Leeds United’s history, the core of players that reached the Champions League semi-final and finished third, fourth and then fifth in the Premier League under David O’Leary between 1999 and 2002.

Leeds were always meant to play in yellow, to be honest. It’s just how it should be.

Look at this image of Alan Smith, with the shirt matching his hair, and tell me it’s not what you immediately picture whenever you think back to early-00s United side. Tell me this isn’t the most Leeds United image ever captured.

Smith. Ferdinand. Woodgate. Viduka. Kewell. Bowyer. Fowler. Harte. Martyn. Dacourt. Batty. Radebe. Keane. Bridges.

Leeds had some genuinely great players back in the day, and they also had Danny Mills.

Let the good times roll once again, in bright fucking yellow.
