Leeds United are back in the big time
It had been coming for a long time, but, like Liverpool’s coronation as Premier League champions, Leeds United’s promotion to the Premier League was delayed due to the coronavirus-related delay to professional football.
The Whites’ team, moulded if not created in Marcelo Bielsa’s image, took the Championship by storm this season, and eventually pulled away from the chasing pack as they finished the season with extraordinary consistency.
These past two seasons under the Argentine coach have been a rollercoaster, and has seen the Yorkshire side play some of the best football in their history, but the road back to the promised land has been a rocky one.
From their relegation to the Championship 16 years ago, to administration and subsequent relegation to League One a couple of years later, Leeds United fans have had to contend with years of anguish.
Hated owners, unknown managers, priests blessing Elland Road (successfully), three fucking Neils, these supporters have seen it all. This is the story of how Leeds made it back to the top flight.
