It’s believed he was running on a treadmill at the time of his death

Legendary bodybuilder Cedric McMillan has died just a year after taking a break from his craft due to continuous heart issues.

Announcing their client’s death on April 12, longtime sponsor Black Skull USA posted an image of the athlete onto Instagram alongside a caption which read: “RIP.”

“We regret to inform you that our friend and brother Cedric McMillan passed away today,” Black Skull wrote within their caption. “Cedric will be greatly missed as an athlete, comrade, friend, and father. Our prayers are with all his family and friends.”

“Close sources” later confirmed the 44-year-old’s death through bodybuilding news outlet Generation Iron, which also said that McMillan “was very open about his past heart issues.”

It’s believed that McMillan was running on a treadmill at the time of his death – but an exact cause has yet to be revealed.

Last year, the athlete suffered a “near death experience” that forced him out of competitions like Legion Sports Fest Pro and the Arnold Classic.

In November, McMillan explained that he had contracted covid in 2020 and later pneumonia, which put him on life support. He also experienced “shortness of breath for quite some time.”

“Back in July I was almost dead,” he said during an interview with Generation Iron. “I was in the hospital for about three weeks. I lost about 30 pounds. I was getting ready to go to the Arnold.”

Sadly, McMillan’s passing follows the recent deaths of Shawn Rhoden, who died in November, and George Peterson who died just a month before. Peterson was 37, while Rhoden was 46.
