L’Equipe went to town on Manchester United with brutal player ratings

A lot of 3s were dished out

Sacré bleu!

Granted, it wasn’t Manchester United’s finest hour but surely the player ratings from L’Equipe are a bit on the harsh side.

The French publication held nothing back in its scathing assessment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s charges, who came up short in their first Champions League game under the Norwegian.

No fewer than six players received 3/10; with Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera, Victor Lindelof and Alexis Sanchez all coming in for a savaging from L’Equipe.

Pogba’s red card means he will be unavailable for the return leg in Paris and Tuesday evening probably represented his worst game under Solskjaer.

We were in agreement with Sanchez’s rating in our own assessment of the game but the others perhaps deserved a better score.

L’Equipe are notoriously ruthless with their player ratings and to be fair, they weren’t too kind to PSG as the majority of the visiting team earned 6/10, with 7s reserved for Thilo Kehrer, Dani Alves and Marquinhos and 8s for Kylian Mbappe, Angel Di Maria and Thiago Silva.

While many believe the tie is done and dusted, Solskjaer insisted that “mountains are there to be climbed” in his reaction to Tuesday night’s game.

“There is a determination in the dressing room to put this right,” Solskjaer said in anticipation of the away leg.

“We will give it a go. If we get to half-time with a one-goal lead, that is what we have to aim for.”
