Hamilton has had a difficult start to the new F1 season
Lewis Hamilton has revealed on Instagram that he has struggled ‘mentally and emotionally’ over recent months, encouraging his followers to be more honest and open about their own feelings.
The seven-time Formula One world champion has endured a tough start to this season – failing to finish on the podium in either of the first two races.
His most recent performance in Saudi Arabia saw Hamilton start on the grid in 15th following a disastrous qualifying session. The 37-year-old did recover somewhat to finish the race in Jeddah in 10th.
Hamilton revealed his struggles on Instagram
In a post on his Instagram Stories, Hamilton acknowledged he had found it hard to remain positive given events in the wider world.
“It has been such a tough year already with everything that is happening around us.” his post reads.
“Hard some days to stay positive.
“I have struggled mentally and emotionally for a long time, to keep going is a constant effort but we have to keep fighting. We have so much to do and to achieve.”
‘Just know that you are not alone and that we are gonna get through this’
Hamilton is entering his 16th consecutive year in F1 and despite his struggles early into the season, said that he had publicly spoken out about his mental health to encourage others to as well.
“I’m writing to tell you it’s ok to feel the way you do, just know that you are not alone and that we are gonna get through this!” he told his fans.
“A friend reminded me today, you are so powerful and you can do anything you put your mind to! We can do anything we put our mind to.
“Let’s remember to live in gratitude for another day to rise. Sending you love and light.”
Hamilton and Mercedes will now gear up for the third race of the season which takes place in Australia this weekend.
