Thiago and Henderson will be absent for the game in London
Liverpool have confirmed that Thiago Alcantara will miss the Premier League game with Tottenham on Sunday afternoon after registering a suspected positive test for Covid-19.
The game in north London is one of only four Premier League games not to have been postponed this weekend as a sharp spike in Covid cases across the UK saw a series of outbreaks at multiple top flight clubs.
“Thiago Alcantara will miss this afternoon’s Premier League fixture with Tottenham Hotspur after registering a suspected positive test for COVID-19,” a tweet from Liverpool confirmed.
The tweet also confirmed that captain Jordan Henderson would also miss the game due to illness but had returned a negative test for Covid-19.

The postponements in the Premier League has sparked fresh debate around the number of players yet to have the vaccine.
Speaking earlier in the week, Jurgen Klopp said clubs would be reluctant to sign unvaccinated players as the Covid crisis continues to affect elite sport.
“I think it (being vaccinated) will be influential, definitely, in who clubs sign,” Klopp said.
“If a player is not vaccinated at all, he is a constant threat for all of us.
“He doesn’t want to be a threat, it’s not that he thinks ‘I don’t care about the others’ but he is.”
Liverpool have so far avoided major disruption to their own fixture list, despite growing calls for the Premier League to introduce a “firebreak” over the Christmas period.
