The Premier League champions will be without their number one at Villa Park
Liverpool will be without their first choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker as they return to Premier League action on Sunday evening.
The champions are set to visit Aston Villa for the late kick-off on Sunday but according to a tweet from The Athletic’s James Pearce the Brazilian international will miss the game due to an injury picked up in training. Adrian will be between the sticks for Jurgen Klopp’s men instead.
At the time of writing, little is known of the extent of Alisson’s injury or how long he is expected to be out of action for.
Liverpool are anticipated to make multiple changes after resting some of their first-team regulars for their midweek Carabao Cup elimination at the hands of Arsenal on Thursday.
Though Pearce also confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold would be fit to play, Klopp’s side will be without Thiago Alcantara and Sadio Mane, who are both isolating after positive tests for Covid-19 earlier in the week. New signing Diogo Jota, who scored his first goal for the club in the league meeting with Arsenal last Monday, is expected to deputise for Mane.
A trip to Villa Park will bring back fond memories for Liverpool, who staged a dramatic late comeback in the same fixture last year. Entering the final minutes a goal down, an equaliser from Andrew Robertson was followed by a winner from Mane deep into stoppage time. The victory proved hugely important, sparking genuine belief Klopp’s side could end their three-decade wait for a league championship.
