Congratulations if you had God in your fantasy team this week.
Following his brilliant injury time winner in England’s 2-1 win over Wales, Daniel Sturridge was keen to give praise to a higher being for his goalscoring chance – and we don’t mean Roy Hodgson.
Despite looking like he’d carved out his own opportunity to slot home from close range, the Liverpool striker was keen to share the credit with a surprising assist-maker – God.
Well done to everyone who had God in their fantasy teams for the assist pic.twitter.com/Xx6ljP0FW6

This comment had viewers divided. Some found it refreshing that a player was humble enough to praise the Lord at such a moment, whilst others didn’t appreciate religion being brought into proceedings.
Liverpool fans, on the other hand, had a different take on it altogether. They were pleasantly surprised that Robbie Fowler – nicknamed ‘God’ by the Anfield faithful – had been namechecked by the England man.
Why in his post match interview did Sturridge keep thanking Fowler for the opportunity to score?
