Liverpool fans loved Jurgen Klopp’s ‘clean sheet’ comment after win over West Brom

A veiled dig at Mourinho?

Gold star for anyone who can figure out who Jurgen Klopp’s post-match comments were aimed at.

“Who wants a clean sheet when you can get three points?” Klopp said after his side’s 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday evening.

The German didn’t seem all that bothered that his side had conceded late in the game to a Gareth McAuley goal following some disorganised defending.

All Klopp seemed to care about was that all three points were in the bag come the final whistle and while the above comment can be read as just the most recent example of Klopp’s quirky sense of humour, it can also be taken as a dig at Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.

The tactics of Liverpool and United have been analysed to death since their 0-0 stalemate on Monday and Mourinho has faced the brunt of the criticism for an apparent lack of ambition in the game.

Klopp seems to suggest that he does not have it in his managerial DNA to go out looking to frustrate opponents into draws as it is the three points that matter most.

And while we’re sure that Reds supporters would prefer to see their team concede fewer goals, there was nothing but love for Klopp’s remarks to BT Sport.
