Aaron Ramsey is out of contract next summer
Liverpool are hoping to take advantage of Aaron Ramsey’s contract situation this January, according to the Sunday Mirror.
Ramsey’s contract at Arsenal has entered its final season and negotiations over a renewal recently broke down after the club withdrew their offer. The midfielder now looks set to leave in January as Arsenal look to avoid losing their longest serving player for free next summer.
Liverpool made an offer for the Welshman in the summer that was swiftly knocked back by Arsenal, but Jurgen Klopp and co are reportedly more confident of agreeing a deal for the player in January given the contract situation.
The Sunday Mirror report that Ramsey is more likely to stay at the Emirates for the remainder of this season, allowing himself to have pick of the bunch from all the clubs interested in offering him a contract.
Liverpool would see Ramsey as a replacement for the injured Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who played with Ramsey at Arsenal for six and a half years and is currently recovering from an ACL injury sustained against Roma in the Champions League last season.
Juventus are reportedly keeping tabs on the situation, while former Arsenal chief Ivan Gazidis, now at AC Milan, will try to persuade Ramsey to join the San Siro club.
But Liverpool looks a likely destination for Ramsey, as the Mirror report that he is tempted by the prospect of playing under Klopp, returning to the Champions League and challenging for the Premier League title.
