Dejan Lovren isn’t getting any sympathy from Didi Hamann anyway.
It’s safe to say that Hamann isn’t the biggest fan of the current Liverpool defender, whose injury struggles are apparently as trying as ever.
Lovren has seemingly turned to tablets to help him through recent games, having missed the Premier League ties against Manchester City and Burnley earlier this month.
The Croatian centre-half resorted to preemptive self-medication in order to make himself available for the Reds victory over Leicester last week, as well as Champions League meeting with Spartak Moscow on Tuesday.
“I have problems with my whole body for the last two weeks, my back and now I have hurt my Achilles tendon,” Lovren told Sportske Novosti, via the Liverpool Echo.
“I am taking pills so I can play, five before every game.
“I play but I cannot train at all. That’s why I skipped matches against Manchester City and Burnley.”
With the addition of European football this season, respite for Lovren looks like a far-off hope for the 28-year-old who has also been included in Croatia’s squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
It surely can’t be a good idea in the long term for an athlete to continue to take several pills just in order to fight through the pain barrier and Lovren has acknowledged that it’s not normal.
“It’s not normal to have four of five tablets before each game,” Lovren continued.
“I wanted to play, the coach put me in the team, but it is not good.
“For more than two weeks, I have had these problems.”
Well if he was hoping for some sympathy then he’s not going to find it from Anfield legend Didi Hamann.
After reading Lovren’s story, Hamann had a rather brutal reply for the injury-plagued defender.
I'm taking 8 pills to be able to watch him every week https://t.co/ybqhfUfeId
