Liverpool are looking to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window, and reignite their pursuit of a player they tried to sign last summer.
Jurgen Klopp’s side will be without Sadio Mane, who will be on international duty with Senegal at the African Nations Cup, and Philippe Coutinho will just have returned from injury by the time the window opens.
According to football journalist Tony Barrett, Liverpool are still interested in Christian Pulisic and will make a renewed attempt to sign the Borussia Dortmund winger.
Klopp identified the player as a transfer target last summer, and hasn’t been put off by a late, unsuccessful attempt to sign him in August.
“An unsuccessful late move for Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic does not signal the end of Liverpool’s interest,” Barret wrote.
“Under Klopp there is a willingness to play the long game for the right targets and there is also a refusal to pad the squad out with short term alternatives except in extreme circumstances. Klopp would rather wait for the players he most wants to become available and make do with what he has than sign ones from the lower reaches of his priority list.”
Barrett, speaking on Football Friday Live, said that signing a winger is a “priority” for Liverpool in the upcoming window, and Pulisic remains their first-choice.
Whether the club can wrestle him away from Dortmund remains to be seen, but Klopp’s interest in the player is unlikely to go away.
The 18-year-old American international has impressed for Dortmund this season, making 16 appearances and registering five assists.
