The alleged incident occurred earlier this month
Members of Liverpool’s security team have attended a meeting with Manchester City representatives in order to gather information on allegations that a Reds fan spat at Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff.
According to the Mirror, the club has stepped up their investigation in recent weeks after City made an official complaint about the incident following the gripping 2-2 Premier League draw at Anfield earlier this month.
The Sky Blues claimed that Liverpool fan had spat towards their bench on the touchline as a number of City’s staff and substitutes celebrated Phil Foden’s stunning second-half equaliser.
The Merseyside outfit were quick to look into the accusations, and it has since been reported that the Reds sent members of their in-house security team to the City Football Academy to take witnesses statements last week.

A City source said: “Liverpool have taken the complaint extremely seriously and have promised to take firm action.
“There is a wealth of evidence to prove what happened.”
It is believed that Liverpool will issue a lifetime ban to the supporter(s) in question if the allegation is substantiated.
Also, they have stated that they would send all relevant evidence gathered to Merseyside Police to see if criminal charges can be laid.
Liverpool’s response to the matter and determination to support the investigation has impressed City.
The game itself was a thrilling encounter, with Sadio Mane opening the scoring for the home side in the 59th minute, before Foden levelled the tie 10 minutes later.
The Reds were ahead once again when Mohamed Salah scored a wondergoal, but Kevin De Bruyne’s deflected strike ensured City went home with a point.
