The 24-year-old has taken the armband after Scott Brown’s retirement
Andy Robertson has been named Scotland captain. The armband has been passed around the team for the past year since Scott Brown retired from international football for the second time, with James Morrison, Kieran Tierney and Charlie Mulgrew all captaining the side once.
But the Scottish FA have decided to appoint Liverpool’s Robertson as the permanent captain.
The 24-year-old has started the season as he finished the last, in fine form for Liverpool. He leads by example with his high energy, mature defending and work ethic, all traits necessary in a captain.
The Scottish FA announced the appointment with a video, showing all the nation’s previous captains, including Graeme Souness, Darren Fletcher and Barry Ferguson.
It begins with a resonating quote from the legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson: “You cannot lead by following.”
