World Cup fever has spread nationwide with such force that it could be described as an epidemic. Half the country are convinced that football’s coming home again, despite the fact that England have not won a knockout game since 2006.
The spread of optimism has caused people to go mad. People are booking the day after the final off work. The country is preparing for a nosedive in productivity the week after the final. Pubs are naming themselves in honour of Harry Kane.
Yes, a pub has literally changed its name to pay tribute to England’s captain. A pub in London usually known as the Golden Fleece has renamed itself the ‘Golden Boot’ in support of Harry Kane, who currently leads the race for the top scorer award at this summer’s World Cup, on five goals.
As well as that, they’ve offered to give away free pints to locals every time Kane scores a goal against Colombia. All customers have to say is “football’s coming home” at the bar when the England captain scores.
