He needs a fresh start

Loris Karius could be set for a fresh start after Jurgen Klopp gave the green light for him to negotiate with Besiktas, who are interested in taking Karius on loan, according to The Mirror.

The goalkeeper has had a tough time at Liverpool, and the Champions League final was the nadir. Two avoidable errors, both leading to goals, put the game beyond doubt and gifted Real Madrid a third consecutive European title.

Liverpool then signed Alisson from in the summer, a significant upgrade on Karius, although the transfer was not a direct consequence of the aforementioned mistakes. In fact, Klopp almost put his faith in Karius and kept him as first choice, but it now looks likely that the German will head to Turkey for a season.

Liverpool and Besiktas have 11 days left to agree on a loan deal for the goalkeeper, as the European window closes 20 days after the Premier League window this summer.

It is thought that the most likely outcome is a loan with an option to buy after one season.

A fresh start is necessary for Karius, who would struggle to regain confidence while sat on Liverpool’s bench. A run of games away from the spotlight could be exactly what’s needed for a talented yet error-prone goalkeeper.
