David de Gea won’t face Aston Villa on Friday evening after telling Manchester United’s goalkeeping coach, Frank Hoek, that he doesn’t want to play.
The revelation was made by Louis van Gaal, who is surely growing increasingly frustrated at the Spaniard’s situation.
“He [Hoek] had a meeting with David de Gea and he asked him: ‘Do you want to play?’” said Van Gaal.
When asked how De Gea responded, he continued: “‘No.’ Then I have to take the decision.
“It is a process. We had been observing him in preparation, he was not so good, he was not the same David de Gea as before. He was my best player last season. According to the fans, he was the best of the last two years.”
Sergio Romero now looks certain to start for United, with the club still waiting for Real Madrid to make a bid.
