Luis Suarez could return to England for Liverpool v Barcelona friendly

Tom Victor

Luis Suarez is still hugely popular among Liverpool fans despite leaving the club for Barcelona in 2014.

The Uruguayan, who top-scored for the Reds in his final Premier League season, has scored a remarkable 56 goals in just 51 games this season.

But despite going on to bigger and better things since leaving Anfield, many supporters will have been prepared to welcome him back with open arms once it was announced that Liverpool and Barcelona would be meeting in a close-season friendly.

There’s just one problem, though – the game is likely to be played away from the Premier League club’s iconic home ground

Liverpool v Chelsea - Premier League

According to the Liverpool Echo, the only certainty about the International Champions Cup game is that it will take place in Europe.

The paper reports that Dublin’s Aviva stadium had initially been earmarked as a potential venue – something that would have been music to the ears of Liverpool’s Irish fanbase – but Wembley has emerged as one of the new favourites.

Liverpool and Barcelona will meet on August 6, one week before the 2016/17 Premier League season begins.
