It wasn’t that long ago that Manchester United supporters were prepared to cut their losses with Luke Shaw.
Just 10 months ago, Shaw lined out for United’s U23 side and flattered to deceive, leading fans to believe that there was no way back for their young left-back.
Speculation was rife in the opening half of 2018 about where Shaw would be plying his trade this season because the nail appeared to be firmly set in his Old Trafford coffin.
The full-back has never made more than 16 Premier League appearances in a single campaign for the Red Devils but Shaw looks to have finally convinced manager Jose Mourinho of his worth, starting each of United’s four games this term.
The 23-year-old was named the Player of the Month for his club thanks to his resurgence, which began with a dedicated training regime over the summer.

Responding to claims that he was overweight, Shaw has put himself into the best shape of his life and reportedly finished top of United’s early pre-season fitness tests.
Shaw’s revival has seen him rewarded with a recall to Gareth Southgate’s England side for the upcoming friendlies against Spain and Switzerland.
And while the former Southampton man has rejected reports that he has a weakness for sweets, he admits that he has cut some things out of his diet.
“You guys will probably know because it’s always in the news… Fizzy drinks,” Shaw said.
“People say I was a fizzy drinker and a snack eater. It wasn’t true.
“I’ve changed massively on and off the pitch. I’ve matured, grown up. I’ve gone from a kid to a man now, and I know what I need to do to push myself.
“The nutrition side… I’ve not made massive changes because I was always looking out on that side, but I’ve cut out some of the silly things I was doing.
“I’ve seen a psychologist, but for the last four years. Especially after the leg break: that was a very tough time.
“A lot of the stick I’ve had in the last two or three years has pushed me on. I didn’t need to speak to anyone about that. I just needed to see it myself
“I’m just training as I always have. I’m a hard trainer, wanting to improve every day. There weren’t many chances last season, but I’ve started this season off and played four times.
“I’ve not done that often enough. It’s great to have my fitness back and to look forward to the season.
“I want to play for Manchester United, to stay there and fight for my place, and prove my worth to the team. I want to do the same here now and give Gareth a headache over selection and choices.”
