It’s his first ever senior goal
Manchester United got their Premier League campaign off to a flying start tonight as they beat Leicester City 2-1.
The goals came from a Paul Pogba penalty, in the opening two minutes, and Luke Shaw, who poked home from a narrow angle in the 82nd minute, before Jamie Vardy pulled one back in the dying moments.
It was Shaw’s first ever goal in senior football in his 141st appearance. It will be a weight off his shoulders and a much needed confidence boost for the young left-back who has struggled for form since returning from a traumatic leg injury sustained in 2015.
José Mourinho has publicly criticised Shaw on many occasions, but he handed the defender a start tonight and Shaw repaid his manager by doubling United’s lead in the closing stages of the game.
He will hope that it is enough to keep his place in the team, but we will see.
United fans were particularly thrilled for the player after he finally got off the mark.
