Man City submit English transfer record-shattering bid for Jack Grealish

City are confident of getting their man

Manchester City’s pursuit of Jack Grealish appears to have taken a significant step forward, with reports now claiming the Premier League champions have made an offer of £100m to Aston Villa.

The BBC claims the two clubs have been in dialogue throughout the summer, with City now making their move as Grealish prepares to return to Villa to begin preseason training.

Grealish signed an extended five-year deal at his boyhood club in September. While many thought this might fend off any serious interest in him, Pep Guardiola is believed to be a huge admirer and views him as an important addition to his squad which could finally help them to Champions League glory.

If accepted, the fee City will pay to Villa will eclipse the amount paid by Manchester United to Juventus for Paul Pogba’s return in 2016.

City are said to be confident the deal will go through. If it does, it may not be the final time they spend big this summer, with Tottenham’s Harry Kane also said to be a major target for Guardiola.

Kane informed Spurs of his wish to leave the club earlier in the summer. Should his wish be granted, it likely the north London side would hold out for a higher fee than the one City are willing to pay for Grealish.
