Back in 2012, Sir Alex Ferguson famously turned down the chance to sign Brazilian sensation Lucas Moura.
The legendary manager’s words at that time – “When somebody’s paying €45 million for a 19-year-old boy you have to say the game’s gone mad” – have already returned to the fore in the light of Manchester United’s signing of Anthony Martial.
And now United could be back in for Lucas, according to French publication L’Equipe.
Now 23 years of age, Lucas has been good but not great during his time in the French capital.
And United are reportedly one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in bringing the Brazil international to England.
He won’t come cheap, but €45m (£31.7m) for a 23-year-old might make more financial sense than €45m for the same player at 19.
