There was much talk about Man United making a move for Neymar late in the summer transfer window. Most laughed it off as fanciful gossip.
The general consensus was that it was nothing but made up headlines to keep the rumour mill turning. But now an impeccable source has confirmed that the Old Trafford club went as far as to make a formal offer.
The Telegraph report that Neymar’s dad confirms that Barcelona received a proposal from United, but they informed Neymar’s entourage that the player would not be sold:
“The offer reached Barcelona and the club contacted us saying they were not going to sell [Neymar].
“They asked if we were interested, but that wasn’t the case. Barcelona are not selling, he has three years still to go on his contract.
“It was Manchester’s deal, but that offer is not on the table now, it has fallen through.”
It has to be said that the Brazilian ace is currently negotiating a new deal with the Catalans, so this news should perhaps be considered through that prism.
