Much like elephants, football fans never forget – particularly when it comes to refereeing decisions.
A high tackle from Nani during Manchester United’s 2013 Champions League match against Real Madrid resulted in the winger seeing red.

As it happens, the very same referee who issued that card, Cuneyt Cakir, was in charge of Spurs’ match with Borussia Dortmund on Thursday, and in a very similar incident, Tom Carroll caught a player whist his gaze was on the dropping ball…
Grudge-bearing United fans were very quick to respond to the double-standards that only resulted in a yellow card (ignore the incorrect date)…
