Man United fans demand Timothy Fosu-Mensah is recalled as Roy Hodgson prepares to take Palace job

Frank de Boer’s time as Crystal Palace is over.

After just 77 days at the helm, De Boer has been given the boot by the club after they lost their opening four Premier League fixtures.

Before the news had even been confirmed, reports were already suggesting that Palace intended to replace the Dutchman with Roy Hodgson, last seen guiding England to an embarrassing Euro 2016 exit at the hands of Iceland.

Football fans have been quick to question Palace’s decision to bring in a now-70-year-old Hodgson, who has been out of club management for over five years – especially after affording De Boer so little time to show what he could do.

Manchester United fans have also expressed their concern at what the appointment might mean for one of their club’s most promising young stars.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah, who recently made his senior debut for the Dutch national side, agreed a season-long loan to Selhurst Park in the summer. At the time, it was seen as a sensible move for the 19-year-old, who has already made 21 appearances for United’s first team.

De Boer had been Ajax manager at a time when Fosu-Mensah was part of the Dutch club’s youth set-up. Under a manager that already knew him well, it was hoped the youngster would be given plenty of first team Premier League football before returning to Old Trafford a better player at the end of the season.

However, with Hodgson now set to take charge, plenty of United supporters appear concerned about what the rest of the season might hold for Fosu-Mensah. With many of them suggesting the former Fulham, Liverpool and West Brom boss is likely to favour more senior players, some United fans went as far as saying that their player should be recalled by Jose Mourinho.
