And with one seven-word tweet, Rio Ferdinand’s legendary status at Old Trafford was tarnished forever…
Well, in the eyes of some Manchester United fans, at least.
The former United centre half angered some of the club’s supporters on Monday by appearing to suggest he was willing to leave the club for Arsenal, back in 2014.
Referring to the summer of 2014, when United chose not to offer him a contract extension to remain with the club at which he had spent 12 years of his career, Ferdinand’s response to a tweet sent by an Arsenal supporter indicated that he tried to contact Arsene Wenger about a deal at The Emirates.
Clearly, such a move never materialised, and Ferdinand eventually agreed a deal with Queens Park Rangers – his last club before he announced his retirement at the end of the 2014/15 season.
I did reach out to Mr Wenger!! https://t.co/8jcm4JJbPj

Unsurprisingly, many United supporters didn’t take to kindly to such a revelation.
