Bastian Schweinsteiger’s time at Manchester United is over.
In truth, it pretty much was from the very moment Jose Mourinho walked through the doors of the club’s Carringt… sorry, AON Training complex last summer.
A couple of weeks on from finalising his move to Chicago Fire, it’s now being claimed that the former Bayern Munich midfielder could be set for an Old Trafford return (obviously, not as a United player, however).
According to The Sun, the 32-year-old intends to head back to Manchester in the coming weeks to say farewell to his former teammates. His move materialised so quickly that he was denied a proper chance to wish the rest of the United squad well for the remainder of the season and will do so as soon as the Major League Soccer schedule allows him to.
Not only that, the same report claims that Schweinsteiger could also return to a packed Old Trafford in a matter of weeks. Paying absolutely no attention to the fact that his new team are due to play away at Orlando City the very same day, The Sun also suggest the 32-year-old might play a part in Michael Carrick’s testimonial on June 4.
