Man United fans celebrating the signing of Bastian Schweinsteiger should hold their horses, according to the man who sold him.
Pep Guardiola, who managed the German at Bayern Munich last season, claims that the midfielder’s fitness levels have declined year-on-year since 2012.
The Telegraph report that Guardiola said: “Unfortunately, during the last three years [Schweinsteiger] was never in good condition.”
United boss Louis van Gaal has already criticised the World Cup winner for a performance during United’s pre-season tour of the USA, but fitness issues could yet play a part during the upcoming Premier League campaign.
But Schweinsteiger knows the way to silence his critics will be to perform well at the start of his first season in England
