Manchester United have confirmed that fans will be able to exchange official club shirts which contain Mason Greenwood’s name and number on the back.

Greenwood was released on bail on Wednesday after being arrested on suspicion of rape, sexual assault and threats to kill.

The 20-year-old was arrested on Sunday January 30 after allegations of physical violence were made by a young woman on social media, before being further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed in a statement on Wednesday February 2 that a 20-year-old-man had been released on bail.

The statement reads: “A 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of the rape and assault of a woman has been released on bail pending further investigation.”

United reiterated on Monday that Greenwood would “not train with, or play for, the club until further notice.”

The club said: “Manchester United reiterates its strong condemnation of violence of any kind. As previously communicated, Mason Greenwood will not train with, or play for, the club until further notice.”

A statement from Nike – Greenwood being one of their numerous sponsored athletes – told The Athletic: “We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation.”

On Monday, the brand suspended its relationship with Greenwood.

Greenwood has also been removed from the Manchester United squad in the latest update of FIFA 22.

The update, which was released on Playstation, Xbox and PC platforms on Tuesday, no longer features Greenwood on the game’s offline modes. He also doesn’t appear in the United squad list on the game.

But Greenwood is still available to use on the FIFA Ultimate Team game mode, and can still be traded on the game mode’s transfer market.
