Confidence is always important in football, but it might be possible to take it too far.
Victor Vazquez, a midfielder for Manchester United’s Champions League opponents Club Brugge, voted for himself in the Belgian team’s 2015 Player of the Year awards and justified the move by saying: “I think that I deserve the prize”.
“[I] see nothing wrong with my vote. One must be positive and believe in oneself,” added the former Barcelona player.

Vazquez, who scored five Europa League goals for Brugge last season, was named Player of the Year after securing more than twice as many votes as runner-up Lior Refaelov, so it’s unlikely his own ballot paper was all that crucial.
The Spaniard will be up against some familiar faces in the European qualifier, as he was a teenager in Barca’s youth set-up when United manager Louis van Gaal was in charge at Camp Nou and backup goalkeeper Victor Valdes was also coming through the ranks.
