We’re used to Man United being gazumped for big name players, but are they about to be out-manoeuvred in their attempts to attract a new manager?
Whilst Ed Woodward and the Old Trafford board continue to dawdle over whether or not to sack Louis van Gaal, the most obvious candidate to replace him could soon be in another job.
A number of reports in Spain suggest that Real Madrid are very keen on wooing Jose Mourinho back to the Bernabeu to replace Rafa Benitez. The Portuguese is a favourite of Florentino Perez and the pair worked very well together during Mourinho’s first stint at the club.
Cadena COPE just saying Mourinho haven't ruled out a return to Madrid due to his good relationship with Florentino Pérez.

The likes of Cadena COPE and AS report that not only are Real Madrid sounding out a return, but that Mourinho would be open to going back.
With Pep Guardiola expected to join Man United’s rivals City, and Carlo Anchelotti replacing him at Bayern Munich, it would leave the Old Trafford club lacking in world-class alternatives.
If Real Madrid appoint Mourinho then Manchester United have once again bottled it and will cost them dearly. They had to sign him.

Ah well, maybe they’ll end up sticking with Van Gaal after all…
