It looks like Manchester United need to start picking their defensive targets a little better.
As news filters through about rivals Manchester City stealing a march in the race to sign Nicolas Otamendi, another Old Trafford target has seemingly ruled out a move this summer.
Sergio Ramos has been courted by Louis van Gaal all summer, but he has finally signed a new five-year deal with Real Madrid.

That surely puts paid to a swap deal for David De Gea, who may now choose to see out the last year of his United contract knowing that a huge signing-on fee awaits in the Spanish capital.
It is not yet known how much Ramos stands to gain financially from his new deal, but it has been suggested that he will earn considerably less than the amount United were prepared to offer.
Despite back-to-back clean sheets, United fans may still be concerned by the club’s options at centre-back.
