Barcelona may be famed for their celebrated La Masia complex, but Manchester United proved the kids are alright at Carrington too.

In front of a full house at the Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco, Jesse Lingard scored United’s second in a 3-1 victory over the Catalans.

And what a lovely worked goal it was too. Louis van Gaal made a spate of substitutions on the hour mark with the score at 1-0 to the English side, and it wasn’t long until the fresh legs of youth doubled his side’s lead.

Andreas Pereira advanced with the ball in Barcelona’s half before spraying it out to James Wilson. The young forward spotted defender Tyler Blackett making a run outside him and fed him a pass.

Blackett pulled the ball back to Lingard who finished with aplomb. Not to feel left out, Adnan Januzaj rounded things off with a stylish finish of his own to make it 3-1.

Earlier Wayne Rooney had give United the lead with a regulation header. Both the reds’ later goals sandwiched a consolation by Barcelona’s Raphina.

It may have only been a meaningless friendly, but United fans will hope it bodes well for the future.
