United are said to be happy to stick to their original plan

Manchester United are reportedly happy to stick to their plan of waiting until the end of the season before appointing a permanent replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Solskjaer was finally relieved of his duties on Sunday after United were beaten 4-1 at Watford the previous day.

It’s since emerged that Mauricio Pochettino, frequently linked with the United job before and during Solskjaer’s time at the helm, is keen to leave Paris Saint-Germain to take the role – possibly immediately.

United said that they would seek to appoint an interim manager until the end of the season as they confirmed Solskjaer’s dismissal. According to The Mirror, they have no intention of deviating from this plan, despite conflicting reports that they are exploring the possibility of bringing Pochettino in imminently.

United are said to be unconvinced they will be able to appoint the former Tottenham manager or any of their other top targets for the manager’s position before the end of the season and so will hold off for no.

Pochettino was appointed manager of Paris Saint-Germain following the departure of Thomas Tuchel a year ago. His relationship with director Leonardo is said to be strained and reports have claimed he is keen to return to England, where he also managed Southampton before his move to north London.

Zinedine Zidane, who is said to have rejected United’s advanced, has been named as a potential replacement for Pochettino at PSG should he leave the Parc des Princes in the weeks or months to come.

United are currently in Spain ahead of their crucial Champions League group game with Villarreal on Tuesday night. Michael Carrick, who was one of Solskjaer’s assistants during his time as manager, has been put in temporary charge of the club until an interim manager is appointed.
