United are still unbeaten in domestic football under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
It’s starting to seem impossible that Manchester United will appoint anyone but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their next permanent manager.
The Norwegian caretaker boss oversaw another win on Wednesday night, his injury-hit side recording a 3-1 victory over an in-form Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Goals either side of half-time from Romelu Lukaku had given United a two-goal lead before Palace halved the deficit through Joel Ward midway through the second half. Ashley Young later killed off any hopes of a comeback for the home side, scoring United’s third with seven minutes remaining.
The win not only keeps United in contention for a top-four finish that seemed beyond them when Solskjaer took the wheel, it also set a new club record. Victory at Selhurst Park was their eighth consecutive win away from home – something the club has never achieved before.
Starting with the win at Cardiff City in Solskjaer’s first game in charge, United have gone on to beat Newcastle, Tottenham, Arsenal, Leicester, Fulham, Chelsea and now Palace while on the road in league and cup fixtures.
Domestically, United have only failed to win twice under Solskjaer – both home draws in the league against Burnley and Liverpool.
Their only defeat under Solskjaer came in the Champions League last 16 first leg game with Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford. Trailing 2-0 from the first leg, United will have to prolong their winning streak in Paris next Wednesday if they are to stand any chance of progressing to quarter finals.
