A report claims Gomes is considering leaving United
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have been dealt a blow in his hopes to integrate some of Manchester United’s brightest youngsters into his first team ahead of next season. Angel Gomes, one of the most highly-rated young players at Old Trafford, is said to be considering leaving the club over a lack of opportunities.
Gomes, a member of England’s U17 side that won the World Cup two years ago, has played just twice for United’s first team this season – his last appearance coming from the bench during the loss to Cardiff City on Sunday.
The 18-year-old’s contract at United runs until 2020, but Portuguese outlet A Bola claims he could push for a move.
According to the report, a source close to the player has said he is frustrated at not featuring more regularly for United this season and that Paris Saint-Germain along with clubs in Spain and Portugal are keen to sign him.
The report also claims Gomes is upset that Solskjaer suggested he was “‘physically more fragile than would be desirable”.
Gomes, who became United’s youngest debutant since Duncan Edwards in 2017, has already seen Jadon Sancho – also a member of England’s U17 World Cup-winning side – flourish with a move to Borussia Dortmund.
Phil Foden, who also played in that tournament, has steadily increased his number of appearances for title-winning Manchester City as the season has progressed too.
