Manchester United are one of many clubs after Lucas Moura this January

They tried to sign him in 2013

A link that will never die.

Lucas Moura, much like Wesley Sneijder, is one of those players who will seemingly always be linked with Manchester United until the transfer eventually happens.

Former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson wrote in his autobiography about how he pursued Lucas towards the end of his time at Old Trafford but failed to sign him.

United offered Sao Paolo £35m for Lucas back when the winger was only 19. He opted to move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2013, but that hasn’t made the stories of United’s interest disappear. It seems that every transfer window Lucas is linked with a move to United, and this one is no different.

Reports from French outlet Telefoot claim United face competition from Bordeaux, Nantes, Nice and Real Betis who also want the Brazilian. Unsurprisingly, Lucas would prefer a move to Old Trafford.

Telefoot claim PSG wish to offload the winger permanently, as he has fallen down the pecking order behind Neymar, Kylian Mbappé, Angel Di María and Julain Draxler. PSG also need to reduce their wage bill after breaking the world record transfer fee for Neymar last summer. PSG are also obliged to pay £166m to Monaco to acquire Kylian Mbappé permanently this summer.

However, United would prefer to take the 25-year-old on a short-term loan until the end of the season.

If United and PSG are able to come to an agreement, Sir Alex Ferguson may finally get his wish.
