Pogba accused The Sun of lying and United were quick to back their player
Manchester United have backed midfielder Paul Pogba after he accused The Sun of lying after they claimed that he ignored manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The newspaper made the comments following United’s humiliating 5-0 defeat to Liverpool last weekend, reporting that he had “snubbed” his boss after he was left out of the starting XI for the game at Old Trafford.
Pogba himself spoke out first, taking to his Twitter account to show his feelings on the accusation by screenshooting the article before covering it with a sticker saying ‘fake news’ and the caption ‘Big lies to make headlines.’

The Frenchman was then backed by United as they reposted Pogba’s tweet with the caption ‘Strength in unity’.

Pogba’s contract runs out at the end of this season and reports have suggested that he may only be willing to stay if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer leaves the club.
According to the Athletic, there is also a growing consensus around the playing squad that while they have respect for Solskjaer and what he has done, a new manager and new direction may be what’s best for the long-term planning of the club.
Antonio Conte has been touted as the favourite for the job, however he wants reassurances from the board that he will be able to implement his own style and bring in the players he desires.
The Times also reported that the playing squad held ‘clear the air’ talks in order to discuss problems such as under-performing players and a lack of motivation in training.
