The irony isn’t lost on many football supporters; Paul Scholes, famously the one to shy away from the limelight and controversy in his playing days, can’t seem to shut up spouting off his opinions in his role as a pundit.
While many Manchester United supporters appear to have quietly agreed with his criticism of Louis van Gaal, plenty have been irked by his comments about 19-year-old Anthony Martial.
Coming in the same week that Scholes suggested Bastian Schweinsteiger needed to do more for his former club, the former Man United midfielder claimed that Martial didn’t seem bothered if he missed a chance.
Although Scholes’ reputation as a club legend will mean that some agree with his assessment of Martial, his comments have drawn lots of criticism from United supporters on Twitter:
Scholes is at times right but his comments on Martial are appalling.

I find Paul Scholes' criticism of Martail quite hypocritical. He's always finding excuses for Rooney who does way less than Martial

Martial is only 19 years and he will keep improving, I don't know why Scholes is critising such a promising young lad. He's pissing me off.

Scholes is bias he can't criticise his country man who is not worthy #SXl #mufc bt he's now criticising Martial who's far better than Rooney
