It was a bad night for Manchester United.
After a goalless first 120 minutes, United were dumped out of the Capital One Cup by Middlesbrough at Old Trafford.
In a sign of things to come, Daley Blind nearly scored the own goal of the century. Then Sergio Romero nearly had a clanger in front of goal.
But there was one man bearing the brunt for the defeat more than most – Wayne Rooney.
The £300,000-a-week star missed his penalty in the shoot-out along with fellow England internationals Michael Carrick and Ashley Young.
But it was Rooney felt the wrath of the entire internet…
When Rooney walked to the spot, the (admittedly Liverpool) pundits in the Sky studio just laughed. They knew. I think we all knew.

Retweet if you hope van Gaal, Wayne Rooney, Ashey Young and the entire Man United squad die, fave if you hope they fall into a lifelong coma

People are quick to forget that Rooney has scored against Ipswich, Sunderland and San Marino this season.
