This seems like a wise move from Manchester United.
Michael Carrick’s contract at United expires at the end of the season, and the 35-year-old is due to have his testimonial on June 4 at Old Trafford. Â The midfielder’s 11 years of service is being rightly recognised by the club.
While United undoubtedly need to sign a long-term replacement, many fans of Jose Mourinho’s team would like to see him remain at the club for another season.
He’s not getting any younger, but at the same time Carrick has proved this season that he still has a lot to offer.

With no word of a new contract been offered to Carrick, United fans may have resigned themselves to seeing the player depart the club.
However, according to the Manchester Evening News, the midfielder will be offered a new one year deal and a coaching role at United when he eventually retires.
With United’s squad heavily hit by injuries this season, it would arguably be a very wise move by Mourinho to retain Carrick, a player with experienced and whom he can fully trust, to help the club as they compete on several fronts next season.

Carrick joined United from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006, and has made over 450 appearances for United, winning five league titles, the Fa Cup, two League Cups and the Champions League.
He’ll have a chance to complete the set when United take on Ajax in the Europa League final next Thursday.
According to the report, United captain Wayne Rooney is expected to leave in the summer, as is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who looks set to be out injured until 2018.
