Manchester United have and haven’t made an offer for Zlatan Ibrahimovic

We can't keep up with this

Simon Lloyd

Provided there are no more fake bomb devices at Old Trafford, Manchester United’s Premier League season will be over in a matter of hours.

Their rescheduled game against Bournemouth on Tuesday evening sees United with their Champions League fate in their own hands. A win by 19 clear goals will see them leapfrog Manchester City and snatch the final spot in the top four on goal difference.

Maybe don’t hold out too much hopes though, United fans.

With no Champions League football on offer at Old Trafford next season, player recruitment may prove slightly trickier for whoever is United manager in the weeks to come. Their lack of goals this season would suggest they need to add a striker or two to their ranks, but finding a top level forward who would be willing to spend a year outside of Europe’s elite cup competition is more difficult than it sounds.

One man that fits the bill as being a world class striker is Zlatan Ibrahimovic…or at least he did about five years ago.

The Swede is on the move this summer after announcing a couple of weeks ago that his time with Paris Saint-Germain in the highly-competitive French league was coming to an end.

United were almost immediately linked with Zlatan, and with the season all but over, the rumours are showing no signs of slowing.

RMC Sport claim that Zlatan’s wage demands make United firm favourites to seal a deal for the former Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Ajax and pretty much everyone else striker. The report even goes as far as suggesting that United have offered him a one year deal.

But within a couple of hours of the reports starting to do the rounds, Zlatan’s agent Mino Raiolo was pouring cold water on them.

Speaking to Sky Sports news, Raiola said:

“In this world we have to accept some journalists use their imagination and make things up. The story is not factual.”

We still reckon there’s a good chance he’ll be heading to Major League Soccer.
