This probably means Adnan Januzaj won’t be at Old Trafford next season.
This time three years ago, Januzaj was one of the most promising talents in football. The Belgium winger’s breakthrough was the only remotely positive thing to happen to Manchester United during David Moyes’ season as manager.
Januzaj impressed so much, he inherited Ryan Giggs’ number 11 shirt, and it looked like he was on his way to becoming a key player for the club.
However, fell out of favour under Louis van Gaal and had a brief, unsuccessful loan spell with Borussia Dortmund. Januzaj, like Moyes, looked to rebuild his reputation at Sunderland last season. However, like Moyes, he struggled as the Black Cats were relegated.
Januzaj now looks almost certain to leave Old Trafford.
Not only has Jose Mourinho left him out of United’s 27-man squad for the pre-season tour of the United States, Januzaj hasn’t even received a squad number for the coming season.

Reports last month linked him with a move to Real Sociedad as his tour of Moyes’ former clubs continues.
From inheriting a United legend’s squad number to not getting a squad number, it really hasn’t gone to plan for Januzaj. But, he’s still only 22, so maybe he can turn things around at the right club.
