Louis van Gaal may be calling Marcus Rojo into his office on Monday morning after a snap of him preparing dinner was posted to Instagram by his wife.

While it is great to see the Argentine defender pitching in around the kitchen, this meant Rojo was not with the United squad.

Van Gaal insists the players all stay overnight at The Lowry hotel before away games, and Rojo’s absence suggests he will miss the top-of-the-table encounter with Leicester City.

With Phil Jones also confirmed as injured,United are short of defensive options.

Van Gaal can either draft Paddy McNair into the centre of defence, ask Ashley Young to cover left back or go with three at the back. Under-21 defenders Alex Tuanzebe and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson could feature on the bench as defensive cover.

United could face a second blow, with the Manchester Evening News reporting Jesse Lingard will miss the match with a hamstring injury. The attacking midfielder is said to have tweaked the muscle in the 0-0 midweek draw with PSV.

With Ander Herrera also ruled out, it should see Juan Mata return to the starting line-up and a possible promotion for Andreas Pereira.

Speaking about Jones and Herrera, Van Gaal said: “I don’t think it is weeks, but I think within two weeks one of the two can come back. But I don’t know, you can never predict that, because injuries are unpredictable.”
