France’s post-Euro 2016 hangover didn’t last long, as they recorded an impressive 3-1 win over Italy at the Stadio San Nicola.
Having lost a European Championship final in their own back yard, Didier Deschamps’ men bounced back thanks to goals from Anthony Martial, Olivier Giroud and Layvin Kurzawa.
And it was the first goal of the night, from Martial, which garnered the most attention.
With the first Manchester derby of the Mourinho/Guardiola era on the horizon, United fans were delighted to see the manner in which Martial gave France the lead.
It wasn’t just seeing their young forward strut his stuff against a world-class defence like Italy’s – although that was surely sweet – but the fact that Martial’s first senior international goal was provided by none other than Paul “The Most Expensive Footballer in the World” Pogba.

Sure, it was a little fortuitous after a mistake from an Italian defender, but United fans didn’t care.
All they saw was two of the most expensive players in their history combining for a £147m goal, and they couldn’t help but imagine the 23-year-old Pogba supplying goals for the 20-year-old for the next decade.
And it only helped that Pogba bagged another assist after providing the final ball for France’s third goal.
