Manchester United reportedly set for new arrival… but it’s not the one you might expect

Board games

Once again, reports on Wednesday morning were suggesting a change was in the offing at Old Trafford – only this time, it appears to be nothing to do with Louis van Gaal.

The Manchester United boss has taken plenty of flak for the club’s dismal run of form this season, with many fingers of blame also being pointed in the direction of executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward.

Whereas Woodward clearly knows his stuff when it comes to getting lucrative sponsorship deals over the line for the club, there’s been a feeling amongst supporters that he’s been slightly out of his depth when it comes to the way he handles the football aspect of things.

Peter Cowgill, the man credited with the revival of JD Sports and a lifelong United supporter, is being linked with a place on the club’s board – a move that may take some of the pressure off Ed Woodward.

The Sun claims that sources have indicated to them that Woodward has already accompanied a potential new board member to Florida to attend meetings with the Glazer family.

62-year-old Cowgill rarely misses any of United’s home games and is said to be well-known by Sir Alex Ferguson and former chief executive David Gill.
