Manchester United reportedly want Championship defender to solve their left-sided problems

Tom Victor

Every transfer window seems to throw up at least one deal that makes you go ‘what?’.

In January it was Steven Fletcher’s move to Marseille, while few saw Stoke City snapping up Xherdan Shaqiri before last summer.

Next up could be Manchester United’s pursuit of Andy Robertson. Yes, that Andy Robertson.

Scotland v England - International Friendly

The Scotland left-back was one of Hull’s better performers as they were relegated from the Premier League last season, and has been a regular for the Championship high-flyers this time around.

With Luke Shaw still yet to return from his double leg-break, the Daily Star report that United are lining up an unlikely move for the former Dundee United man.

It could be an indication that Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, who has impressed since being given his debut by Louis van Gaal in the win over West Brom in November, might be set for a loan move next season.

With attacking flair and Premier League experience, Robertson could provide solid competition for Shaw as the England man returns to first-team action.
