It’s the biggest hint yet that Manchester United are set for more attacking reinforcements.
Louis van Gaal’s side will start the new campaign with the number nine shirt vacant, leaving a gap for a new striker to join before the end of the transfer window.
They did the same last season before their big-money loan move for Radamel Falcao, suggesting another marquee signing could be on the way.

New signing Memphis Depay has taken the iconic number 7 shirt following Angel Di Maria’s departure, while fellow new arrivals Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger have been given 28 and 31 respectively.
United have been linked with a number of elite strikers, including the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane, and this is a sign that their summer spending might not be over.
