After their disappointing exit from the Champions League, Manchester United might not have expected their Europa League campaign to have started so badly.
Danish champions FC Midtjylland head to Old Trafford defending a 2-1 lead and will be boosted by the news that the United squad that faced them a week ago has picked up even more injuries.
Chris Smalling, who has featured regularly at the heart of the United defence this year, was earlier ruled out of tonight’s game.
He joins several other of United’s first team squad, including David De Gea, who has failed to recover from the injury he picked up in the warm-up for last week’s game in Denmark.
Joe Riley, who made his first ever appearance for the club as a substitute in the win at Shrewsbury on Monday, makes his full Manchester United debut.
